WHY STAY AT VILLA SAGITTA?
Villa Sagitta near Ubud, is the ideal combination of what only certain villas on Bali do so well – providing services and amenities that you would expect from a luxury hotel, while allowing you the privacy, and space, of your own villa, with plenty of accommodation, a private infinity swimming pool, a garden and an outdoor, undercover wooden floor yoga deck with magnificent river gorge views.
All this at a fraction of the price you would pay for 6-12 guests at a comparable hotel.
Villa Sagitta can be rented as a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom villa right up to a 6-bedroom, 6-bathroom villa sleeping 12 people.
Villa Sagitta is situated at the top of a river gorge in Pejeng, 7km from central Ubud (a 15-minute drive through breathtaking rice paddy scenery), in a newly declared UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pejeng is quiet and magnificently beautiful – without the noise that can be a part of central Ubud life. Prepare to relax and sleep well!
The villa is also within easy striking distance of many of the sights that guests like to visit while in Ubud.
WHO SHOULD STAY?
Although there is no obligation to eat at the villa, Villa Sagitta is catered. It is therefore ideal for guests who would rather come home to a Balinese meal than have to shop for it, and cook it, themselves.
Villa Sagitta is well situated to the sights in Ubud and beyond, but is also ideal for those who just want to relax at the villa.
Villa Sagitta will suit guests who want peace and tranquility. Although there is a small quiet village behind Villa Sagitta, the villa itself is situated in indigenous forest, with beautiful rice paddy scenery close by, so guests will have a more ‘rural’ experience when staying here than an urban one.
The villa has six bedrooms, all en-suite, sleeping up to 12 people, but we also rent it as three, four or five bedrooms.
We offer a complimentary infant cot, and a travelling cot, for infants and toddlers (as well as a high chair).
Villa Sagitta is only ever rented to one group at a time.
Outdoor living & dining
The outdoor living has been designed to maximise the beautiful weather, the magnificent views from the villa, and the surrounding serenity.
Villa Sagitta has outdoor dining for twelve. There are four sun loungers and a comfortable Balinese day bed where you can read a book or just relax.
Balconies lead off both upstairs bedrooms, and there is a built-in Balinese bale off the main bedroom on the upper level.
The lounge has been designed with relaxation in mind, with a comfortable sofa and a Balinese day bed. Stretch out, relax with a book, watch TV or a DVD, or listen to music on the stereo system.
There is cable television with a large number of international channels, as well as a large supply of DVDs and some music CDs.
Bedrooms & bathrooms
Enjoy your sleep with extra-length king-size beds in all six bedrooms (the king beds in three bedrooms can be converted into twin beds), wonderfully comfortable mattresses, a choice of pillow types, high-thread count cotton linen, fans, air conditioning and mosquito nets.
The Joglo suite, made from a 200-year-old Javanese structure, is enclosed with walls on three sides, but the front has been left open (with roll-down blinds) to embrace the magnificent river valley views.
All the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms (5 with outside showers and one with a bath and shower), customised bath amenities & big fluffy towels.
FACILITIES & SERVICES
A daily housekeeping service, complimentary breakfast, staff, WiFi, tea, Balinese coffee and bottled water are all included in your rate. A car and driver; airport or island transfers; in-house massage and in-house yoga are all available at the villa, as is babysitting at an added rate.
Villa Sagitta is not a self-catering villa. Our Balinese cooks provide a choice of delicious complimentary breakfasts, and Balinese and Western food for other meals from a varied, reasonably priced menu.
We provide the services so you can sit back, relax and enjoy your Balinese holiday.
THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA
Ubud is famous for its charm, and its reputation as the cultural heartland of Bali. It is also well known for its shopping, excellent restaurants, fantastic spas, spiritual practices and varied courses.
Villa Sagitta has easy access to many activities in and around the area. The villa staff will be happy to make suggestions, and arrangements, regarding yoga, meditation, cooking classes, spas, art classes, dance classes, sightseeing, bird walks, herb walks and anything else you can think of!
Stroll the Sari Organik
The Sari Organik is a beautiful walk just a few kilometres north of Ubud. Our driver can drop you at the top (it's easier walking downhill!) and you can stroll into central Ubud through the most beautiful rice paddy scenery. We like to walk it in the late afternoon, when the light is at its best for photos, and combine it with dinner in town before heading back to the villa.
Climb Mount Batur
Balinese Hindus consider Mount Batur volcano to be sacred. It is located 1717 m above sea level. You should begin the climb to the top in the very early hours of the morning to be able to experience the spectacular sunrises (our driver can collect you from the villa at 1.30am). It takes about 2-3 hours to ascend and the same time to descend, depending on which route you choose. A fair to good level of fitness is required and a guide is compulsory.
Purify at Tirtha Empul temple
Tirtha Empul temple is a Hindu temple, built in 926 AD at a site where there was a large spring. It is famous for its holy water and this is where many Hindu Bali people go for purification. A short drive from the villa, Tirtha Empul Temple is a very active temple and as such is an interesting place to observe Hindu devotees purifying themselves by means of ritual bathing. It is especially recommended to visit during a full moon.
Visit Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave)
Goa Gajah, a significant Hindu archaeological site, is a 10 minute drive from Villa Sagitta. It consists of a mysterious cave, relics, and ancient bathing pools set amid green rice paddies and a garden. Goa Gajah is colloquially known as the Elephant Cave because of its close proximity to the Elephant River.
Learn to cook like a Balinese
Because Ubud is so well known for its food, it's not surprising that there are plenty of excellent cooking courses available.
Release the foodie in you
Ubud has some of Asia's best restaurants, with quite a few restaurants having won major international awards. In addition there's really something for everyone - all budgets and cuisines are catered for.
Admire the herons of Petulu
The white herons of Petulu can be found a short drive from the villa. Every evening at about 6pm thousands of these birds descend into the village of Petulu. The spectacle lasts about two hours. Legend has it that the birds arrived one evening in 1965 after the massacre of thousands of Indonesians and never left. The herons are said to be inhabited by the souls of the victims of the massacre.
Benefit from yoga in Ubud
Ubud is the epicentre of yoga in Bali. There are plenty of excellent studios, including the world-famous Yoga Barn, that offer drop-in classes throughout the year. We also have an excellent yoga teacher that does in-house yoga at the villa.
Succumb to Ubud's ultimate spas
Bali, and Ubud in particular, is deservedly well known for its beautiful spas. There are plenty of options priced for all budgets. We have an in-house masseuse at the villa (by appointment) and our own massage bed.
Take a cycling tour past the villa
There is a beautiful cycling tour that runs past the villa down into central Ubud. The good news is the tour operators can collect you at the villa. The better news is the route is almost all downhill!
Embrace your inner museum buff
Ubud is the cultural heartland of Bali and has many fantastic art galleries and museums worth visiting.
Enjoy walks near the villa
There are many beautiful walks around the villa and in the Pejeng area. If you prefer to venture further afield to walk, our driver can drop you off and collect you, where and when you please.
Shop 'til you drop!
For a small town Ubud packs a lot of shopping punch. It is the best place on Bali to buy local crafts, homeware, furniture, silver jewellery and plenty more.
Visit the Bali Bird Park
The Bali Bird Park has 250 species of birds with exhibits dedicated to different parts of Asia and the world. You can also see Komodo dragons in the reptile side of the park. A popular tourist attraction and a relaxed day out.
Adrenalise with white water rafting
White water rafting is a fun way to see Bali's beautiful riverine scenery while enjoying a shot of adrenaline! There are three main rivers for rafting with different categories of rapids - something for everyone.
Commune with the gods at Besakih
Besakih temple is the most important temple in Bali and is well worth a visit. It is situated on the slopes of the volcano, Mt Agung, and is surrounded by beautiful scenery. The temple itself is very interesting.
